PRINCE GEORGE—As the saying goes: one person’s trash, is another person’s treasure, and a group of five hunters are taking that to the next level.

It’s a sight that can be seen throughout Northern B.C.: relic cars. Vehicles that have been abandoned. But a group of B.C. and Saskatchewan people are hunting for these old cars to rescue, restore, and re-sell.

The HISTORY Channel is airing a new show Lost Car Rescue featuring the group. They recently filmed the show last summer in both provinces, including some of the episodes taking place in the Peace Region.

“Every car is different. Some cars are beyond rare, where one of maybe five in the world and they hold a place on the podium that everyone should see. So those cars do go to museums; a lot of times we donate them or we’ll pair them with a museums we choose or fits it. Other cars are extremely valuable, monetarily and we will sell them to restorers.” said Matt Sager, Team Leader for Lost Car Rescue.

Much of the crew is from B.C. with some raised in the north.

“I’m originally from a very small town that was actually at one point the flow plane capital of British Columbia, so I’ve surrounded by aviation from a young age. My first flight was when I was six months old.” said Jessica James, Pilot for Lost Car Rescue.

James has decades of experience in the skies, but on the ground it’s a different story. Prior to the show, she had no knowledge or experience with relic cars or its history, but she says learning on the go while filming was a rewarding experience.

The whole process though, I honestly have to say was a lot of fun. The team that we worked with, the cast and the crew; everyone was just amazing to work with.” said James.

Sager says that the show allows him to explore his passion further and share that passion with viewers. Being able to take everyone on an adventure from the comfort of their homes is the greatest thing about the show.

“This isn’t a car show about building cars, this is a car show about going on an adventure and it’s about sitting in that right seat with us and go on that adventure and learn and fly through that time machine of Canadian’s history and where these cars have been and where they’re going.” said Sager.

For the first season of Lost Car Rescue, three episodes were filmed in B.C., three more were in Saskatchewan. The series premieres on January 13th, 2021 at 9PM on the HISTORY channel.
