BC Winter Games in Vernon cancelled, Summer Games still scheduled for Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — The BC Games Society and the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games Society announced the BC Winter Games will not take place in February.

In a news release Friday (Jan. 14), BC Games states the ongoing pandemic, wildfires, and floods have made it impossible to stage a safe and memorable games in Vernon this winter. The organization says it will see if Veron and area can host the games in 2023.

The 2022 BC Summer Games, however, are still scheduled to take place in Prince George. The 2024 Winter Games are set to take place in Quesnel.

The BC Games are held every two years and bring competitive opportunities for British Columbia’s best young athletes and developing coaches and officials, and attract local tourism and direct economic benefits to the host community.
