Could Mr. PG be on the move?

PRINCE GEORGE – Tourism PG recently presented their new strategic plan to Prince George City Council, included within that was a conversation about the future of the operation.

For years a new location for a visitor information centre and a new home for Tourism PG has been discussed with no simple solution.

“Just the way Prince George is set up, the visitor centre location, it’s tough to find the perfect spot,” said Colin Carson, CEO of Tourism PG.

Recently a third-party report was completed to find some solutions on where a suitable location may be, and the options have been narrowed down although nothing has been ruled out at this point.

A trend identified in the report was around visitor centres partnering with attractions to increase traffic, something Tourism PG is also taking into consideration before planning a move.

Councillor Brian Skakun has just the idea he believes is a match made in heaven to satisfy all of the needs.

Move Mr. PG wherever the new tourism centre eventually goes.

“As you can see we kinda built around Mr. PG, and that fact is we could probably move this and build a new tourism centre I would hope in the close proximity would be great news,” said Skakun.

Skakun believes a serious contender for a new location is not far away.

“Well right across the street,” said Skakun. “We’d have to talk to John Major, but I think if we had it too far south, east, or west, we wouldn’t get all the traffic.”

According to Tourism PG there are some access issues at the major junction, and that could be confusing for some, although it’s worth noting nothing has been ruled out yet.

The last time Prince George’s woody wonder was moved was back in 2012, a time when the seasonal visitor information centre was just recently closed near the Prestige Treasure Cove Resort.

Mr. PG was first shown in 1963.
