PRINCE GEORGE– With Cold temperatures comes pricy heating bills.

So far this Winter season Fortis BC has moved more than 4.5 petajoules of energy through its system which is 46 percent more than normal. Those numbers combined with record low temperatures have raised heating bills across the province which can be a difficult problem for those with lower incomes. However, Fortis BC offers help to those who need it saying customers who need the help can call their office and work out a plan that works for everyone.

There are other options as well. Together Against Poverty or TAPS for short is a non-profit organization that provides legal advocacy for people on income assistance, disability benefits, employment standards, and tenancy issues. They suggest getting involved with the British Columbia Utilities Commission and helping give input on Natural Gas prices.

TAPS also recommends checking with Prince George’s local advocacy the ASAP House to see if they can provide help with a situation as well.
