Cannabis sales at YXS closer to reality

PRINCE GEORGE – Mayor and Council have passed the third reading on a proposed cannabis retailer at the Prince George Airport.

It will be the first such retailer in an airport in the world. It was not lost on Councillors.

“It’s strange being the first in something this big,” noted Councillor Cori Ramsay.

There were letters in opposition to the idea by the airlines operating out the YXS.

In a presentation from Air Canada, it was noted the lack of consultation by Copilot with the airlines and other stakeholders.

Council noted more than once that what it was considering was a land use issue.

However, more than one councillor noted that one could interchange “alcohol” with “cannabis.”

“It’s not lost on me that, when functioning, there is a bar no more than five feet away,” noted Councillor Garth Frizzell.

The application will need to go through fourth and final reading.
