British Columbians deserve clear timeline on future of COVID-19 health restrictions says Falcon

VICTORIA — British Columbians will have to wait until next week to find out the details on the provincial government’s plan when it comes to public health guidelines brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry made the comments this afternoon, noting COVID-19 orders “are being reviewed on an ongoing basis.”

She says the plan will lay out how B.C. can live with COVID-19 and move beyond pandemic measures.

But BC Liberal Leader Kevin Falcon thinks British Columbians deserve clarity now.

“British Columbians have done everything asked of them, evidenced by a provincial vaccination rate of more than 90 per cent. And now they deserve a clear timeline on the next steps from the provincial government.

“At a time when public trust is fraying, it’s imperative that public officials are open about why and when decisions are being made. This is not the time for a ‘because we said so’ attitude. If the government plans to maintain the current restrictions, they should provide the data and explain why.

“For two years we’ve seen this unfortunate pattern of government reluctance to share information, but now it is time for Premier Horgan and his government to step up and clearly communicate what the next steps will be as we look towards the future.

“British Columbians are simply asking where are we going and when are we going to get there, as they should reasonably expect government has a plan. It’s time for the NDP to trust people and provide the answers the public deserves.”
