PRINCE GEORGE – It’s certainly not every day you hear of a former Prince George student attending Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

Katherine Li, a DP Todd Secondary Alumni is just a few months away from graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering, and she has also been named a finalist for a prestigious award.

“I was eagerly awaiting the call, and one of the organizers ended up calling me while I was out with my friends,” said Li. “It was a nice celebration.”

Li was named a finalist for the McCall McBain Scholarship which would pay for all tuition and fees along with a living allowance to attend McGill University in Montreal value of approximately $70k.

There are 50 finalists in total, and 20 will be awarded the scholarship which comes with mentoring experiences and more.

The Canadian scholarship is designed for aspiring community leaders, and while Li does plenty of hard work inside the classroom, the 2018 graduate from Prince George does a lot outside of school as well.

Operation Climate, an environmental education non-profit organization was created by young people, for young people founded by Li at Duke.

In a few weeks, Li will head off to Montreal to visit McGill’s campus and meet the other finalists before undergoing more interviews as part of the rigorous process to receive the scholarship.
