IIO recommends charges against two RCMP officers following July 2020 incident
PRINCE GEORGE — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has filed a report to the BC Prosecution Service for consideration of charges regarding an incident in Prince George on July 30, 2020.
Just before 7:30 that night, police received a report regarding a stolen vehicle from Alberta that was in a parking lot in the 1400 block of the Old Cariboo Highway. There were three occupants, two woman and a man.
When police arrived on scene, the trio fled into a nearby forest. The man was located by a police service dog, with the man suffering serious injuries. The two women were arrested without incident.
Upon completion of the investigation, the IIO says there are reasonable grounds to believe that two officers may have committed offences in relation to the use of force during the arrest.
