Cougars get thumped by high-powered Winterhawks
PRINCE GEORGE — The return to Prince George went exactly as Taylor Gauthier planned. After much of his career being played in the city as a member of the Prince George Cougars, the 20-year-old netminder returned as a member of the Portland Winterhawks, defeating his former team 7-2 Friday night inside the CN Centre.
With the loss, the Cougars see their losing streak extended to three games.
6:40 into the opening period, the Winterhawks perched themselves ahead of the Cougars. Hawks’ Clay Hanus crept in along the right wing of the net and banked a shot off teammate Kyle Chyzowski and in past goalie Tyler Brennan, giving Portland a 1-0 lead as they controlled much of the offensive game in the first period.
The tally registered as Chyzowski’s 10th goal of the 2021-22 season.
