Cougars drop second straight to Winterhawks 5-3
PRINCE GEORGE — Saturday (Feb. 27) was a closer match, but the Prince George Cougars dropped another game at CN Centre to the Portland Winterhawks 5-3.
Portland held a 2-0 lead early in the second until Hudson Thornton got the Cougars on the board with a shot from the blueline. However, the Winterhawks responded with two unanswered goals.
The Cougars did make a game of it early in the third period with Riley Heidt burying two goals in over two minutes to make it 4-3. Although the Winterhawks responded 39 seconds later and held on to the 5-3 lead.
The Cougars fall to 19-29-2-1 on the 2021-22 Western Hockey League season, good for 41 points in 51 games. They’re seventh in the Western Conference and fourth in the B.C. Division.
