PRINCE GEORGE—The Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has received a donation of 80 flats of cans from the Three Ranges Brewing Company, based out of Valemount.

But it’s not cans of beer. It’s cans of water.

Following last year’s environmental disasters: wildfires, floods, and a heat dome, organizations have started to turn emergency preparedness into a priority. Including the Lheidli T’enneh Band.

In collaboration with the Village of Valemount and Great Little Box Company based out of Vancouver, Three Ranges Brewery donated nearly 2,000 cans of water to the group.

“Our community is just beginning to look ahead to ensure that we are prepared for the spring floods. We have no idea when the floods will happen…after that comes the summer, where we get the wildfires and last year we had that heat so this will come in handy.” said Chief Dolleen Logan, Lheidli T’enneh.

The cans will be stored at the LFTN’s Emergency Operations Centre in downtown Prince George. Chief Logan adds that this help isn’t just for members of Lheidli T’enneh.

“It’s for all of Prince George members, and Valemount, and McBride, and wherever the need is. We’re here to help each other.” said Chief Logan.

MP Todd Doherty applauds the work of the brewing company; and of great work its doing for the community. He adds that in times of crisis, it’s important to come together.

“Whatever hat we wear professionally or title, they don’t matter when it comes to a time in need. We’re just there to help…in 2017, wildfires were a prime example of that. We mobilized hundreds of people in hours.” said Doherty.

This will help alleviate some of the pressure in LTFN’s emergency preparedness for this upcoming year.
