PRINCE GEORGE — Mounties were kept busy the first day of Distracted Driving Awareness month in Prince George.

Prince George RCMP say two dozen tickets were issued for using a cell phone, nine for not wearing a seat belt, three for tinted windows and 15 tickets for vehicle defects.

Enforcement was conducted at the intersection of Highways 16 and 97. Police say a bucket truck parked behind Mr. PG to help enhance enforcement efforts.

“This month highlights an important factor in maintaining our road safety, which is driver attention. When you are distracted, you react more slowly, putting yourself and those around you at risk. Distracted driving is the second leading cause of fatal crashes in B.C. and this behaviour is 100% preventable – it starts with you, the driver,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.
