IMSS send letter to Trudeau urging help so Ukranians can settle in Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE – The Immigrant & Multicultural Services Society (IMSS) has sent a letter off to the prime minister urging him to facilitate the settling of Ukrainian refugees in the city.
Ravi Saxena the executive director and Alan Bromley the president of the IMSS signed off on the letter that was sent this morning. In the letter, IMSS requested that the federal government help more refugees from Ukraine and other places settle in Prince George.
The newly formed group PG4Ukraine hosted a meeting last week with members of parliament, members of the provincial legislature, regional mayors and local organizations interested in helping the people of Ukraine. The meeting of over 50 people consisted of contributing relief efforts in Europe and facilitating the settling of Ukrainian refugees in the city.
IMSS lists several reasons that would make Prince George a good place to immigrate including both UNBC and CNC post secondaries. Prince George also is an industrial hub of northern B.C., it has an abundance of natural resources and a reasonable cost of living. Rent prices in Prince George are also half of what they are in Vancouver and 30-40 per cent less than other cities of the same size in southern B.C.
