PRINCE GEORGE — Interior Savings is waiving any processing fees for wire transfers that are being sent to provide financial assistance to Ukraine and neighboring countries.

Fees will continue to be waived until June 30, 2022, and at that time the program will be reviewed. The credit union has also committed to donating $5,000 to help settle Ukrainian refugees. Interior Savings will work with local partners to determine the best way to spend the money.

“It is heartbreaking to see what is unfolding in Ukraine,” says Karen Hawes, acting president, and CEO of Interior Savings. “We know many of our members and communities have a connection to Ukraine and want to help. This is a small way we can show our support for those impacted by this humanitarian crisis.”

Interior Savings encourages those who can donate to do so. There are several reputable companies that you can donate to, the credit union lists the Canadian Red Cross and the Canada Ukraine Foundation.

Paula Naka, Interior Savings risk manager does caution against scam artists trying to take advantage of the situation. “As the war in Ukraine intensifies, so do the fraudulent and malicious emails exploiting the humanitarian crisis and charitable spirit of recipients across the globe,” she says. “Scammers are impersonating the Ukrainian government and other international humanitarian agencies with pleas for financial assistance.”

Naka recommends that instead of clicking directly on links received via text or email, go directly to the organization’s website and make your donation there.
