PRINCE GEORGE – The annual Forbes richest list was just released and Jim Pattison landed in the 152nd spot with an estimated worth of $12.1 billion dollars.

“I guess I am grateful to be on anybody’s list on the positive side anyway,” Pattison told CKPG News.

Pattison was born in Saskatchewan in 1928 but he and his family moved to East Vancouver when he was just six-years-old. Pattison was always a go-getter even at a young age and started selling seeds door to door.

By 1961, he was able to secure a loan of $40,000 from a bank in order to his first car dealership in Vancouver. Thus began his very lengthy and prosperous business career.

“The highlight of my career would be of the Royal Bank manager that loaned me $40,000 to get started,” explains Jim Pattison of Jim Pattison Industries. “And I have his picture on my wall here in my office, cause I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for him. His name was Harold Nelson and he was the manager at the bank on Cambie and Broadway.”

Pattison owns over 25 car dealerships, Save-On-Foods, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, and several TV and radio stations including CKPG-TV, which he purchased in 2002.

“I am very fortunate that we have the opportunity and the free enterprise system, so that if you work hard you have opportunities. There are a lot of people in a lot of countries that don’t have that opportunity.”

Jim Pattison is 93-years-old and still goes to work every day even on Sundays after church.

CKPG TV is owned and operated by Jim Pattison Industries.
