Vanderhoof business faces $5,000 in fines from WorkSafeBC
VANDERHOOF—Everything for Ewe, a store that provides bedding, knitting supplies, meat directly from the owner’s farm and shipping services in Vanderhoof is in the middle of an appeal with WorkSafeBC.
WorkSafeBC has issued fines totaling $5,000, saying that they attempted to inspect the employer’s retail location in relation to COVID-19 safety compliance. They say a representative of the employer refused to allow the WorkSafeBC officers to conduct an inspection.
Ankie Nellen, one of the store’s owners, said that they were extremely busy the day that the officers showed up but invited them back the next day. Nellen also said that they always maintained proper social distancing.
“Northern Health accepted the way we were working,” said Nellen. “We never put our customers in any danger.”
