RCMP call distracted driving month efforts a success
PPRINCE GEORGE—Prince George RCMP’s Municipal Traffic Services and its partner organizations ramped up enforcement during the month of March focusing attention on distracted driving.
“Distracted driving is still a leading cause of crashes in B.C. accounting for more than one-quarter of all car crash fatalities,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.
RCMP called the kickoff event, held on March 3, 2022, at the intersection of Highways 16 and 97, a big success. They used police and enforcement officers in an elevated boom arm to spot distracted drivers across the large intersection and in all directions. The partner agencies met with Citizens on Patrol volunteers a number of times throughout March for targeted enforcement.
RCMP released the total number of observed infractions across all agencies.
