Terry Fox statue to be bronzed
PRINCE GEORGE – The platform that a statue of Terry Fox once graced is now void. That’s because the statue is being moved to accommodate demolition of the former Four Seasons Leisure Pool.
The statue has graced that location since 2005 to commemorate a monumental decision made here decades earlier. Some might ask why this location is significant.
“In 1979, six months before he started his Marathon of Hope, he actually came here to run a race. Our Labour Day Classic. It’s a 17-mile race. He completed it and the connection is that after the race, he announced in public for the first time that he was going to do his Marathon of Hope,” explains Doug Hofstede, Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives for City.
When the decision was made to move the statue, the City approached the original artist about giving it a touch-up.
