PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings entered Tuesday night with their backs against the fall being down 3-0 in the series against the Penticton Vees, and they were delivered the final blow in a 3-2 final to conclude the series at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

Penticton completed the sweep of the Spruce Kings after the two clubs split the regular season series, and advancing to the BCHL Interior Conference Final while the Spruce Kings will now clearout their dressing room stalls.

The scoring got underway by one who’s been a frequent presence on the scoresheet throughout this series. Bradly Nadeau opened up the scoring 4:56 into the game, scoring his sixth point of the series against Prince George to give the Vees an early 1-0 lead.

Later in the period, the Spruce Kings answered back. Rowan Miller scored his fourth of the playoffs to draw his side back even on the scoreboard with the visiting team.

The 1-1 score held through the second period as the next 20 minutes past scoreless between the two clubs.

In the 3rd period, the Vees broke the stalemate with a goal off the stick of Thomas Pichette, his second in as many nights to push Penticton ahead 2-1. The goal came just 1:56 into the period.

16 seconds shy of the midway mark of the period, the Vees established some cushion for themselves on the scoreboard as Adam Eisele redirected a point shot in past Aaron Trotter to put the Black and Blue up 3-1.

Following a timeout by the home side late in the period, the Spruce Kings pull Trotter to the bench and bring on a sixth skater in hopes of drawing even. A few short seconds after the puck is dropped, Rowan Miller comes up with a big tally to bring Prince George to within one at the 18:19 mark of the period.

But the Spruce Kings couldn’t dig in any deeper to muster up one more as the Penticton Vees brought an end to their playoff season, completing the four-game series sweep in Prince George.

The Vees will now move on to the Interior Conference Final. They’ll face the winner of the West Kelowna/Salmon Arm series for a shot at moving on to the Fred Page Cup Final.

The Spruce Kings wrap up their 50th season and will see their 20-year olds graduate from the program. Captain Kolton Cousins, Dylan Schives, Josh Wright, Luc Laylin, Rowan Miller, and goalie Aaron Trotter saw the end of the junior career come on Tuesday night. Laylin, Miller, and Trotter will take their hockey career to the NCAA level, as well as 19-year-old Nick Rheaume who will embark on his collegiate career as well.
