FORT ST.JAMES — It started at the District Office and ended at 5 Corners.

A Rally walk was planned by 3 different nations. All with the goal of bringing awareness to the Issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous women, Girls and 2 spirited people.

Davis Monk and Iliah Prince we’re two of the many organizers of this special event in Fort St.James. Special T-Shirts we’re made to give out to residents who arrived to participate.

Nearly 100 people of all ages showed up wearing red face paint and holding signs of loved ones lost. All with the goal of spreading awareness and honouring those who have gone missing or been murdered. Something that was honoured across the nation this week as well.

However, despite all the ceremonies, drumming, singing and prayers here in Fort St.James the goal is to let people know that there is help for those who need it. With multiple support services available in the town of just under 2,000 people it’s a step in the right direction.

The hope is this becomes an annual walk for the Community of Fort St.James Red Dress Day and hope to do it in different nation’s territories as well.
