PRINCE GEORGE – The idea of the Prince George Young Professionals Network was only released to the public a few weeks ago, although the response so far has been nothing short of incredible.

The lead of the group and Workforce Development Officer with the City of Prince George Christine Doll said the response has been phenomenal.

“We’ve had I think about 100 members join on top of what already in the group just in the last couple of weeks,” said Doll.

A young professionals group is something that had been missing in BC’s Northern Capital for many years according to many members who expressed their appreciation for the new connections online.

For years stories were shared of young people who moved to Prince George and were never able to make connections with the community and ended up leaving as a result said Dall.

According to the latest census those between the ages of 24 and 29. and those aged 30-34 are two of the largest five-year segments of the population in the city, with 52% of the city’s roughly 77,000 person population under the age of 40.

Compared to the 2016 numbers, the under 40 age group has seen a seismic shift as most of the population was then over the age of 55.

The targeted age range for those joining the network is 21-45 years of age. However, membership is open to anyone interested in growing their professional and personal networks.

Initially, a minimum of four social and professional development events will be held per year with the possibility of planning more events based on engagement levels. There is no membership fee to join the network, although there will be registration fees for some events to cover associated costs.
