PRINCE GEORGE – For some people, boating is guaranteed to produce plenty of smiles. However, for a resident of Ness Lake, the boat launch has become inaccessible.

After longtime resident Chris Burleigh almost damaged their boat last year, she went on a mission to get the public boat launched fixed.

But her search for answers turned out to be more complicated than she thought, as she was given the run around by several levels of government.

The boat launch is on crown land, and bringing it up to provincial standards is not a priority for the government, says the area MLA Mike Morris.

Burleigh wanted to create a group to fix the boat launch but was told no, as they could become liable for not setting it to provincial standards.

Mike Morris MLA Prince George-Mackenzie recommends the folks involved get a petition of several hundred people who use the boat launch and give it to the province, which may help support their argument.

In the meantime, boaters are left waiting until the province decides to fix it.
