QUESNEL – Prolific offenders continue to be a significant concern for many communities.

However, in Quesnel, a partnership was formed to fight crime, and it’s worked. Since then, the city has seen a drop in property and drug offences.

The city of Quesnel has seen a drop in prolific crime over the past two years. Mayor Bob Simpson attributes some success to forming an RCMP Crime Reduction Unit.

Back in 2019, Quesnel City Council approved the funding for the new positions, with the input from city residents. The program also involves other services in the city.

Quesnel’s RCMP Crime Reduction Unit owes its success to the partnership formed with community stakeholders.

Simpson says he’s pleased with the impact of the Crime Reduction Unit, but he says court reform is still needed.

Due to public pressure, the province has hired two experts to investigate and report on prolific offenders. They hope to replicate the success seen in Quesnel provincially.
