Prince George- The Term “Inflation” has been used a lot over the past several months. With a consistent price increase on everyday items, the impact of inflation has been significant.

Groceries, Gas, Housing. All things that have seemingly become unaffordable in the last 12 months, and while the pandemic is part of the problem, other issues need to be considered.

“Even before Covid hit our shores, this federal government was spending like a drunken frat party. In the year 2018, they spent more money than in any given year of the first or second world war or any of our recessions.” Says Kris Sims of the Canadian Taxpayers federation.

According to the Candian Taxpayers federation, the cost of food has jumped over 9 % in the last seven years. It leads to more families depending on other resources, including food banks.

“every March, we do what we call a hunger count. Last year’s hunger count came up with the number 973 points of contact within the month,” says Major Neil Wilkinson, who is the Core Officer for the Salvation Army in Prince George. ” This past hunger count because we just came through our hunger count this past March, the new number 1217.”
