PRINCE GEORGE- It has been 19 years since the Nechako Bottle Depot pitched the idea of a bottle drive to the Ness Lake Bible Camp. Since then, the Cans 4 Kids bottle drive has grown over time, helping more and more kids find their way to camp each year.

2019 was the last time Ness Lake Bible Camp and Nechako Bottle Depot hosted the Cans 4 Kids bottle drive due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A fundraiser that helps kids make it to camp each year.

“We are out here collecting cans, bottles and milk jugs in the speediest way possible to help send kids to camp,” Says Ness Lake Bible Camp director Dave Horton.

An idea that blossomed almost two decades ago when one of the owners of Nechako Bottle Depot, Rick Neufeld, approached the camp about a bottle drive.

“Our family started going to Ness lake right around that time, and fundraising is always an issue. There seemed to be people that needed some help trying to cover the costs, so that is where the original idea came from,” says Neufeld. ” One of the older directors, Paul Bailey, we started a program where people would donate their containers.”

Nechako Bottle Depot also matches all the donations received throughout the day.

Allowing kids to go camping is extremely important to both Dave and Rick, believing it gives kids the chance to learn and grow.

“It is just wild independence,” says Horton. ” We’ve got great supervision, we’ve got excellent training, but in the end, it is kids making their own decisions.”

Cans 4 Kids is an annual event. Ness Lake bible camp urges people to start saving cans, bottles and milk jugs now so that you can donate next year.
