PRINCE GEORGE – Saturday night was filled with praise and passion for those involved in the Rocky Mountain Rangers and members of the community who helped push to bring the regiment back to town.

The success of the local regiment since it returned in 2012 was front and centre during the ceremonious evening. Commander of the Rocky Mountain Rangers, Lt. Col. Amadeo Vecchio said the group has beat their benchmarks and goals.

“There was an appetite to bring a formed military presence back to Prince George and the north and the Rocky Mountain Rangers were tasked with that,” said Lt. Col. Vecchio. “We have succeeded and met every gateway and benchmark.”

Vecchio said much thanks was due to School District 57 who was a great help to getting the regiment back up and running with the lease of Meadow School in Prince George in the Heritage area.

Vecchio was joined by several other decorated members of the Canadian Military in town for the celebration including retired Major General Richard Blanchette who took note of Bravo Company and the success they have brought just a decade into their return.

Blanchette said he could not make any promises but growing the group here in Prince George with higher classification and rating is something he will advocate for in Ottawa.

One of Canada’s infantry core leaders said after speaking with BC’s Northern Capital members that the energy and passion he felt locally is clear and deserves attention from the top.

Blanchette spoke highly of the relationship the regiment has forged with the City of Prince George, a community that has been more than welcoming for the reservists.

The Rocky Mountain Rangers received the Freedom of the City of Prince George back in April 2018.

Saturday night also brought a passionate speech from Mir Huculak, Ukraine’s Honourary Consul for British Columbia who spoke of the struggles facing Ukraine and the Donbas region, one he visited just prior to the start of the conflict.
