Northern BC tourism industry full of untapped potential: TIA BC

PRINCE GEORGE – When the True North Business Development Forum got underway for 2022, there was a lot of talk about Northern BC’s changing economy. Tourism is a large part of that change as the Tourism Industry Association of BC sees plenty of untapped potential in the north.

“I think people are keen on developing the north for tourism, there has been tremendous progress in recent years but there is more to be done,” said Walt Judas, CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of BC.

Partnerships with Indigenous communities were something discussed by Judas as one of the ways to create new experiences to draw tourist dollars to Northern BC.

Many people may not think of Prince George or Northern BC as a tourism destination such as Vancouver or Victoria although the future plan includes a lot more spreading the love.

CEO of Tourism PG, Colin Carson said BC hasn’t reached an over-tourism problem that has been reached in part of Europe and provincial organizations want to keep it that way.

Carson said the tourism industry brings many benefits not only for those travelling through the region but also for residents, a point that has been difficult to get across. Making sure business leaders understand that is something important to ensure investments continue in Northern BC
