SIDNEY—Search and Rescue groups across the province are sharing nearly $6 million in funding from the province.

Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) groups are getting the majority of the new funding with $4,918,715 set aside for them. This provincial funding covers approximately 50 per cent of the cost for search and rescue activities like GSAR teams.

“This is the culmination of many years of hard work by many leaders before me and, on behalf of the search and rescue volunteers, I thank them for their efforts. I also want to thank the Province of B.C. and Minister Mike Farnsworth for this fantastic support. We are definitely partners in saving the lives of thousands of people every year,” said Chris Mushumanski, President, BC Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA)

The other 50 per cent of funding comes from local fundraising efforts by each GSAR team. If you want to help fund your local GSAR team you can do so on their website.
