PRINCE GEORGE– Many have heard of physical abuse and sexual abuse, but one issue that doesn’t receive the same headlines, is Elder Abuse.

June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. According to the United Nations, Elder abuse can be defined as “a single or repeated act, as well as a lack of appropriate action happening within any relationship where there is some sort of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person In response to this, a special event was held at city hall to spread awareness

The event featured a flag-raising, as well as the mayor, officially proclaiming June 15th as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day here in Prince George. Purple Shirts and scarves were also worn to bring awareness to the day that was officially proclaimed by the UN back in 2006.
