Fraser Lake man charged with 15 sexual offences

WILLIAMS LAKE — A Fraser Lake man has been charged with 15 sexual offences involving nine separate complainants.

The BC Prosecution Service says the offences are alleged to have occurred between February 24 1984 and December 31 2005 at or near Fraser Lake.

The charges 56-year-old Paul Habsburg face include seven counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault with a weapon, five counts of sexual interference and one count of gross indecency.

Habsburg is scheduled to appear virtually for a bail hearing today at 5 p.m. by video in Williams Lake Provincial Court.

RCMP say Habsburg is a member of the Stellat’en First Nation.

“Sexual assault can cause long-term trauma to survivors making it difficult to come forward to police,” says S/Sgt Sascha Baldinger.
