Weekend ‘hot stretch’ prompts special weather statement for Pine Pass
PRINCE GEORGE — Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Highway 97 and the Pine Pass in anticipation of the first hot stretch of the summer.
Temperatures are expected to rise starting Saturday to at least early next week with daytime highs rising into the low to mid 30’s with overnight lows down to the mid-teens.
“The BC Interior will experience its first stretch of warmer than average temperatures beginning this weekend,” says Environment Canada.
“With elevated temperatures, the risk of heat related illnesses increase. Freezing levels rise throughout this event and will lead to an increase in snowmelt and snowpack instability. Increased stream flows due to run-off are possible.”
