PRINCE GEORGE – As a caregiver, there are some options you may need to consider in preparing for death and dying at home for the person you are looking after.

The Prince George Hospice, Palliative Care Society is in the development of Hospice at Home.

The new program will provide expert hospice care to those who choose to die at home and their families.

The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society has provided grief and bereavement services to the community since 1987. This fall, some care will have the option of going beyond the grounds.

According to Hospice, 70 percent of people wish to die at home, but near the end, they end up in our emergency room and die in the hospital for various reasons.

The pilot project will start small, and plans are in the works to expand.

The only other Hospice which provides this care is Victoria Hospice.

This is a non-government funded program, and hospices will continue to seek community support. The plan is to start the program in the fall of 2022.
