Prince George Summer camps looking for more volunteers

Tim Bennett, who is the Executive Director with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC says they are eager to get things going and even have a new partnership to share.

“We’re going to be partnering with the Prince George Canoe and Kayak Club. We are going to offer our connect paddle royal program” said Bennett “This program is a program for kids age 10 to 13 and [sic] get them out on the water.”

There is a bit of a dark cloud that lingers over everyone’s plans though as the Pandemic has caused a wave of uncertainty when it comes to staff. There are many programs and camps that have had to downsize or shut down completely.

“Coming out of the Pandemic it is rough and this isn’t a Ness Lake problem or a Camp Kanannaq problem or any kind of localized issue, this is a nationwide issue,” said Dave Horton, “We know of other sister camps that we have that are closing programs or even some camps that are even shutting for the summer.”

Both Horton and Bennett say they are looking for staff but are able to run most programs.
