PRINCE GEORGE- It was just after 8 p.m. Sunday when a bear intruded on a homeowner and his dog in Lower College Heights.

When the bear was spotted, Chris Vigue and his dog Bronson were in the backyard of their house on Imperial Crescent.

“I heard the commotion came outside, and the bear is pacing on the top of the fence,” said Vigue. “Then it fell off the fence in our yard. My wife heard the commotion, and she came outside, and of course, my two American bullies were right behind her.”

Chris spoke about how Bronson reacted to the bear in the backyard.

“He lunged at the bear’s throat and latched onto the bear’s throat and won’t let go, causing the bear to fall.”

Chris was able to separate the two animals using a fertilizing machine. The bear cleared the backyard once separated from the dog.

Vigue suffered multiple scratches to his stomach during the incident but told CKPG news that he is doing well.

This incident wasn’t the first time homeowners on Imperial have dealt with bears.

“It’s got a fairly considerable bear history when it comes to food and garbage habituated bears,” says Eamon MacArthur, a sergeant with the Conservation Officer Service. “We’re just asking people that when it comes to garbage cans, any secure system is obviously the better, but if you’ve got nothing else, we ask for ratchet straps to close garbage bins.”

The Conservation Officer service advises anyone who sees a bear to try and remove themselves and their pets from the situation.
