PRINCE GEORGE – Many were surprised when Premier John Horgan announced he would be stepping down, while others weren’t following a second bout with cancer.

One of those not surprised after thinking about it was former NDP Deputy Premier Lois Boone.

“At first I was surprised, then as I took a step back myself I thought, I understand,” said Boone.

After many years of travelling down to the BC Legislature herself, Boone said she understands why Horgan made the decision he did to step down as BC’s leader.

The legacy left behind by Horgan will be centered around his leadership style, his guidance through the COVID-19 pandemic, and his genuine interactions with the everyday people of BC said Boone.

It’s that leadership that has earned respect from both sides of the legislature.

Mike Morris MLA for Prince George-Mackenzie said he respects the decision from Horgan and understands life is simply too short.

Morris said something to watch will be who throws their names in the ring for the BC NDP leadership announcement which will likely impact cabinet,

As of June 29, no candidates had come forward for the leadership with an NDP leadership convention being planned for the fall of 2022.
