Canada Day celebrations set for Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park

PRINCE GEORGE — Canada Day festivities return to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park tomorrow for the first time since the pandemic started.

Festivities will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the park with fireworks from Connaught Hill at 11 p.m.

Included at the park will be a food pavilion and a kid’s zone.

The event was saved following fears expressed in May by the Multicultural Heritage Society, the organization that has organized Canada Day celebrations for the past 49 years, that a lack of staff would make it impossible to hold the event.

However the event was saved when a group of locals came to the rescue.

“We heard that the society was struggling a little bit to get everything together for Canada Day and it was on the verge of having to cancel just by lack of manpower,” said Kyle Sampson of Kyle Sampson Productions Inc back on May 26. “A few of us were reached out to, to ask for some help and absolutely happy to volunteer and help out in any way we can.”

This group of individuals includes Dave Mothus of Hell Yeah Prince George and Mothus Financial, Aimee Cassie of Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, Kyle Sampson of Kyle Sampson Productions Inc., Craig Briere of the Kodiaks Football Club and Prestige Hotels, and Dawna Varley of the Knights of Columbus Society and BC Day in the Park.
