Prince George flood causes headaches for apartment complex and businesses

PRINCE GEORGE- A torrential downpour took less than 20 minutes to cause severe damage to the downtown core Tuesday afternoon.

Park Place Apartments at Winnipeg and Sixth, was one of the buildings downtown that was heavily affected by the rain.

“A lady comes down from the fourth floor and lets me know that there is some kind of a flood upstairs,” said Manager Peter Willier. “I went upstairs to have a look. It was more or less a river instead of a flood. A flood from the pipe came apart between a roof and the ceiling.”

Suites on the top floor down to the second floor dealt with water in their apartments, with some residents who declined to be on camera telling CKPG that the water was coming through their ceiling fans, leading them to stay elsewhere Tuesday night.

“About half a dozen stayed at motels,” said Willier

It wasn’t just people’s residents affected by last night’s flash floods, but people’s places of work. At the Parkhill Centre, there was a rush of water through the parking lot. While most businesses stayed dry, some weren’t as lucky.

“So last night, someone noticed that there’s water coming in through all the cracks of the carpet here. We just started moving stuff out of the way, so we didn’t get water damaged,” said Noah Martin of Frost Group.

The Frost Group dealt with flooding throughout the back of their office, with multiple offices and a garage affected by the storm.
