Strike averted: Superstore union votes in favour of new contract

PRINCE GEORGE — United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 247 have voted in favour of a new contract with employer, Loblaw.

The union sent an email to CKPG News late this afternoon indicating that 58 per cent of members voted in favour of the latest offer the company put forth. As CKPG reported earlier this week, wages were the number one issue.

The UFCW represent workers at 28 Superstore locations in B.C., including the location in Prince George. They also represent members at three distribution locations.

Details of the deal have not been released but the union sent CKPG the following statement:

“We want to thank all members who have participated in the process as we know these decisions are not easy.

“Now begins the work of implementing and enforcing the new agreement and supporting all members going forward. We will be informing Loblaw of the results and we will be starting the work on the implementing the accepted changes.”
