River Forecast Centre updates flood watch for Nechako River

PRINCE GEORGE—The River Forecast Centre (RFC) is maintaining a flood watch for the Nechako River.

Hydrometric stations along the river have seen their highest water levels this week. The RFC says this is due to cooler than average temperatures causing delayed snowmelt. Stations at Isle Pierre and Vanderhoof saw their peak river flow on Sunday.

Flows are expected to stabilize and begin to recede through the remainder of summer. River levels remain high and the risk of rain causing floods still remains in the coming weeks.

The RFC wants to remind people to stay away from fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks.
