Gas prices dropping heading into the long weekend

PRINCE GEORGE- As the second long summer weekend approaches, local drivers headed out of town will finally feel some relief as they fill up.

The people of Prince George can look up and see a number that doesn’t start with two after the oil price dropped this past weekend.

“Oil prices below $100 a barrel,” said Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “That’s allowed gas stations to start refuelling with much lower fuel prices, so gas prices across Canada now have fallen in many instances, back to the $2 a litre mark.”

And for locals, this price drop provides some much-needed relief on their wallets.

CKPG News spoke to many around Prince George, who all agreed that this decrease in the cost of gas comes with a sense of comfort.

While the prices this low arent going to last forever, De Haan is hopeful that the gas market can find a more consistent ground to stand on.

“We may get bounces, in which case only the lowest price stations that have basically depleted their ability to lower prices may have to go up,” said De Haan. “Or some of the stations that are higher priced that have not passed on all the decreases can absorb the increase.”

It was even more good news for those hitting the road Friday as the experts at GasBuddy don’t believe there’s going to be a jump at the pump for your long weekend.
