Nicole Hoar Missing 20-Year Anniversary

PRINCE GEORGE – Her disappearance shocked Prince George twenty years ago and reached beyond provincial borders. 25-year-old Nicole Hoar disappeared off Highway 16, west of Prince George, in 2002. The search for Nicole brought national attention to our region.

Nicole was working as a tree planter for a local reforestation company. June 21st, 2002, she left the camp and was dropped off on Highway 16, west near Gauthier Road. She planned to hitchhike to Smithers to visit her sister.

According to RCMP, In the twenty years, close to 450 sightings of Nicole Hoar were reported to the police. The area searched was vast. Ground and air teams searched along highway 16 from Prince George to the coast.

In 2009, RCMP searched a property on Pinewood Road, west of the city and found no sign of Nicole.

According to police, no matter how old a missing person’s files stay active until they find the causes of the disappearance.

“If one stopped shaking the tree. Nothing’s going to follow. It’s possible that even though there could be no direct witnesses to this, somebody suspects something or knows something. They don’t know the value of it. And we’re reaching out to those kinds of people and hoping we receive information from them.”
