PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George Fire Rescue has adopted a new rescue tool to help those who find themselves in harm’s way.

At fire hall number 1, some members of the water rescue team stock and prepare their newest rescue tool, a rigid hull inflatable watercraft.

The boat will be stationed at the downtown fire hall and can be towed quickly to the nearest launch.

Deputy Chief Bryan Burleigh

“In any water response, we will send our deployment as per our normal operating procedures, and they will make a determination whether this apparatus is warranted at the time. So it’s not necessarily to say that it’s going to be in the water on every specific incident, and it’s going to be based on the incident commander’s determination and based on the circumstances at hand.”

Recently, many water rescue team members learned new skills and techniques to ensure they are prepared and operating at their best when the water rescue calls begin.

The inflatable watercraft has not been deployed yet, but it’s ready to go at a moment’s notice.
