Parents hesitant to register children for Moderna vaccine

PRINCE GEORGE- Children between six months and four years old can now get appointments for the Moderna vaccine, something that Northern Health recommends.

Though few parents appear to be taking the province up on its offer, the Ministry of Health says just over six per cent of kids have been registered.

“We strongly encourage the child to parents register their children through the get vaccinated,” says Dr. Jong Kim, the chief medical health officer with Northern Health. ” We would like to increase the uptake of vaccinated children with more awareness.”

As the calendar flips to August and school and daycare inch closer, different daycare agencies hope to keep everyone safe.

“As an agency, our philosophy throughout the pandemic has always been to take our advice from Northern Health and the provincial health officer,” said the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC, Tim Bennett. “We are ready for whatever the fall may bring us regarding directions that come out.”

Northern Health hopes to make the vaccination process comfortable for the children and their parents.

“Some staff have additional training, so the parents coming with a question can be helped,” said Kim. ” Toys and other measures will support and comfort the children.”
