PRINCE GEORGE- The fans were flying by the seat of their pants Saturday for the Vanderhoof International Airshow.

“The buzz around town has been incredible,” said Tom Bulmer, the media coordinator for the airshow. “Our pilots, you know, did a bit of a mini air show last night over the river. Got a lot of people in town excited about today’s event.”

It isn’t just the fans who love the show.

“Believe it or not, Vanderhoof is known in the airshow community as the biggest small town airshow,” said Kyle Fowler of GO EZ Aerobatics. “The small shows, it’s a lot more personal. After we’re done flying, we get a lot more one-on-one time with the audience.”

While there were dozens of historic planes in the sky this weekend, the most unique belonged to Fowler.

“It’s a very unconventional aircraft to fly airshows in, but it’s because it’s unconventional and makes it such a great air show airplane,” said Fowler. “It just looks really funny flying backwards to the sky.”

After tasting the Vanderhoof air, it’s easy to see why pilots fall in love with Northern BC.

“The connections we make in the small town are much more impactful than when we’re at a large airshow,” Fowler said.
