PRINCE GEORGE – August 26 is quickly approaching for the TWolves men’s soccer team. The team has been hard at work preparing for their pre-season tournament in Kelowna next week to see where their team is at and what they need to do before they go head-to-head with Trinity Western.

“We are getting everyone back on the same page,” said Steve Simonson, Head Coach.

“You know, they’ve been away for the summer in different soccer environments around the province and listening to different voices. So it’s about getting them back in and reminding them what it’s like to play for you in UNBC and have them meet the new players. That’s a big part of it as well.”

Having their season opener on home soil provides a sense of comfort for the players.

“Well, nothing beats playing on message. You know, walking out from the green tunnel, there is an amazing feeling and just having the home crowd behind us for our season opener is just the best feeling in the world,” Gregor Smith, right winger for the TWolves.

This season also gives athletes in their final year in the program a chance to lead the way for the newcomers.

“I’m really just trying to enjoy my last year and also just provide guidance to the new guys because that’s something that older players did for me and I really appreciated that,” Anthony Preston, midfielder.

“At the end of the day, we’re a team. So even though I have my own personal expectations, you know, a lot of it depends on how the team comes together.”
