PRINCE GEORGE- Studio 2280 continues its summer of hosting local art galleries Thursday. This time, the Prince George Wood Turners Guild is featured in a gallery called woodwork for the home.

“Where a group of slightly less than 20 turners,” said Tim Power, the president of the Wood Turners Guild. “We make many different things, and we look forward to an opportunity to present and show people what we make and maybe encourage some new people to get involved.”

This gallery allows the guild to showcase the more creative side of its work.

“It’s nice to show everyone the more artistic pieces,” said the Treasurer of the Wood Turners Guild, Art Betky. “They take an awful lot more time.”

When it comes to woodturning, many members of the guild have been creating art for years and continue to learn to this day.

“There’s always another way of doing it. Sometimes somebody comes in, and they’ve worked out a problem, and you’ve been working on the same or similar kind of problem,” said Ken Turner of the Wood Turners Guild. “Why didn’t I think of that? It’s so apparent now.”

Woodwork is just one of the many branches of the vibrant art community in Prince George but offers something no other art form does.

“I think, kind of unique because there’s no protection of technique, harm, form, or anything,” said Betky.

The gallery is open Thursday night and will be running until September 10th.
