PRINCE GEORGE- It has been over a month since the BC Liberals proposed a 30-day action plan to help the ongoing health crisis. This week the party did it again.

“We know that the health care system in British Columbia is in crisis. So we need to take steps to do several things to help primary care in the province,” said BC Health Critic Shirley Bond. ” We are basically providing a roadmap to the government to tell them, it’s urgent, we need you to do something. And in fact, here’s a plan that would actually help make a difference.”

The plan came with seven actions about healthcare.

“We need to deal with issues like compensation for family practice physicians. We need to look at retaining the physicians we have today,” said Bond. “We know that it takes a significant amount of time to train health care professionals. So we also need a plan that looks to the future.”

Also included in the plan is reducing barriers for internationally trained physicians. Something that came from many conversations with those working in healthcare.

“The plans we are bringing forward are a result of the conversations we’ve had with people on the front lines in this province,” said Bond

Earlier this week, the leader of the BC Green Party also criticized the ministry of health.

“It’s really important that government aren’t secretive about something that matters as much to everybody right now as our health care system,” said Sonia Furstenau, the leader of the BC Green Party.

CKPG News did reach out to the Ministry of Health but did not get a response by the deadline.
