KAMLOOPS — If you’ve noticed that the skies have been a lot stormier than usual lately, you are not alone – a weather system caused more lightning across the province in the past few days than is typical.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, British Columbia was struck by lightning 17,830 times between August 10 and 13.

The service attributes this to a subtropical feed of moisture and instability across the southern and central interior that extended into the northern part of the province Saturday (August 13).

July and August are the two most lightning-struck months in BC, but the service says it’s not often we see four consecutive days of widespread lightning.
