PRINCE GEORGE – The conservative leadership race is nearing its climax with party members set to cast their ballots next month. It was February 2nd when Erin O’Toole stepped down as Conservative leader. Since then many candidates have stepped up, with Pierre Poilieve and Jean Charest now considered the front runners.

However, according to CNC political scientist instructor, Chris Beach, Poilieve has a big advantage in the race. A big reason why is all the support he’s received. Whether it was MP’s across the country or former Prime minister Steven Harper endorsing him.

Both Poilieve and Jean Charest have different approaches. with Polievere considered the more conservative of the two, a misconception according to local Conservative MP Bob Zimmer. Zimmer says many people have painted him into the corner of being “extremely far right” and he believes Poilieve is the right man for the job.

Although many believe Pierre Poilieve has the race locked up, Riding Captain for the Jean Charest Campaign, Sam McLaren believes it’s not over just yet for him and Charest won’t back down without a fight.

The leadership election will take place on September 10.
