Serious police incident on Winnipeg Street between 4th & 5th Avenues

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: RCMP have released more information regarding today’s police incident on Winnipeg Street.

Police say that shortly after 2 p.m., RCMP officers attempted a traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and instead fled the area. When a second police vehicle attempted to stop the vehicle around the area of 10th Avenue and Carney Street, the driver rammed the police car and fled from police a second time.

“Police officers flooded the area in search of the suspect vehicle, which as located near Ross Crescent and 5th Avenue,” says Cpl. Jennifer Cooper. “After colliding with a police car at this location, three suspects fled the area on foot. Police followed the suspects and shots were fired by police during the encounter.”

She says after a short foot pursuit, all three suspects were located by police and arrested.

No injuries have been reported in this incident.

Earlier: There’s an ongoing police incident on Winnipeg Street between 4th and 5th Avenues.

It began just after 2 p.m. when two RCMP cruisers were used to stop another vehicle.

Three suspects fled from the vehicle, and one witness says police discharged their firearms three times.

The status of the suspects is currently unknown, and police are advising the public to avoid the area.
